Had a smashing day yesterday at yard sales and estate sales. Then went to a salvage store in Ballard, finding treasure. The green planter is Hull pottery on top of a drawer from the salvage store. I got 4 of those drawers with the original tiny porcelain knobs. I adore draft horses so this small vintage photo was a great find.

Photo Ornaments
I have such a lovely collection of vintage photos. This David Bowie photo is from 1990, scarcely "vintage", but he is so iconic I thought making him into a small ornament would be a great way for people to bring a little Bowie into their homes. Not just for Christmas, I think Bowie is appropriate year round.
I'm going to experiment with some of my older, sepia photos.

New Year, New Projects
Happy New Year everyone!
With the new year I am trying a new medium, fabric. I have heaps of vintage fabric scraps and remnants to play with. I will be transferring some of my vintage photos and text directly to fabrics.
Here is a picture of a Poe ornament that is now in my Etsy shop:

Just some thoughts.......
It's late and I was just tweaking the blog design. Big thrifting day tomorrow. I am already done with Christmas shopping (I hate the crowds, the traffic, the rush---those suck the warm fuzzy of the season out for me). But there are still plenty of treasures to be discovered.
Will post pics!

$4
My latest thrifting booty. This pair of owl bookends were just $4.
I found these at my new favorite thrift store. Also just $4 for the pair. Vintage linen, hand embroidered.
I believe these hardwood bookends with tile inserts are mid-century based on some on-line research. They were also $4.
Finally, at an antique store I found this child's school notebook containing handwritten essays. Beautiful work. Yup, just $4.

Vintage Books
I have amassed a sweet little collection of old, old, old books. From the late 1800's, to the early 1900's---my favorites!---, to some kitschy books from the 50's, I am enamored with the worn linen covers and lovely patinas. I love the thick, ivory, even beige, paper. Typically, I shred these books to use in my art projects and upcycle the empty shell into a new art journal. But lately their charm has captured me and made me treasure them as bookish little gems.
I have even developed a sub-collection of vintage language dictionaries. This 3lb copy of McLaughlin's New Pronouncing Dictionary English-Italian was just $2 at a tiny central California used bookstore.
This is the back cover of a second grade reader circa 1914. Inside Little Red Riding Hood meets Mr. Wolf.
This small book of Engineers Arithmetic stands a mere four inches tall. I was going to use the text and drawings in some of my steampunk artwork. Opening sentence: "This is by no means a complete guide to steam engineering....".
Domestic Science once applied is cooking. A vintage cookbook featuring bland recipes I would never make. But I love the font.
Most were found at thrift stores and used bookstores. See the link below for my Flicker gallery on the beauty of old books.
